We all have our dreams. Most married couples have their discussions about the future and all the fun things they’d like to do. Larry and I have talked often of traveling, whether by boat, RV, or whatever way we can. Over the past couple years, we’ve spoken quite often of buying, and converting a bus. Now, speaking of something doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. I mean, as I stated in the beginning, we all have our dreams. So, we went to an auction a few weeks ago, mostly because we’re both addicted to them, (we both even worked for an auctioneer for a couple years). They had a bus in this auction. (Are you surprised?) Now, we talked about buying this bus, but there was no way it was going to sell cheap enough for us to buy it…….
We now own a bus……I’m not really sure how it happened. I mean, yes, my hand went up to bid, but how did we actually get a bus that cheap?!!?! We are the proud owners of a 1995 International school bus. Yay! But, it didn’t have a key and we didn’t even know if it would run. First order of business….obtain a key. Done. Now, we needed to charge the batteries, so we went home, hooked the batteries up and waited another 2 whole days before we could go back to (hopefully) pick up our bus.
So, bus moving day has finally arrived. We were both excited to get there and turn the key. What if it starts? What if it doesn’t? Larry re-installed the batteries, and lights started blinking. Yeah! We have power. Then, the moment of truth. It took a few cranks, but it started! High fives and nervous looks. Now we have to get this thing home. But…it’s never that easy. 2 trips the auto parts store later, about a gallon of brake fluid, and 8 feet of brake lines and NOW we’re ready to take her home. Larry drove, and I was the chase vehicle. After some overheating and some additional brake problems, 30 minutes of winding, twisting back roads, we finally got the bus home.
Now comes the fun part…..turning this bus into a home. To be continued…….
